“Calibrations in generalised geometry”
Generalised geometries go back to
work of Nigel Hitchin. They are defined by (a) topological redcutions
to subgroups of SO(n,n) which is the natural structure group
of the tangent bundle plus its cotangent, and (b) some
``natural'' integrability conditions.
Among one of the key features is that
we can twist the resulting G-structures by gerbes, i.e. integral,
closet 3-forms. Natural examples include so--called generalised
G-structures, where G is one of the classical holonomy groups such as G2, Spin(7) or SU(m).
In this talk, we will present a
concept which generalises the classical notion of a calibrated
submanifold due to Harvey and Lawson to the generalised setup.
Moreover, we explain the link to D-branes in type II supergravity.
